Dr. Andrea Mogni has a long professional experience at the European Commission as senior advisor on international economic and financial matters, global economic governance, business dialogues, investment promotion and networking, EU economic diplomacy and regulatory issues and EU political, economic and trade relations with emerging economies and BRICs.
He graduated in Law and Social Sciences at Genoa University and in Economics in Rome University. He specialized in international trade in Rome, Economic history in UK and financial management at the MIT (Boston-USA).
From 1981 to 1985 he served as economist and programmer at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome.
He joined the European Commission in 1985 serving, first, in the EU Delegation to Ethiopia and then at ECFIN, till 1999, monitoring and supporting economic and financial transition of the Countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
In 2000 he joined the economic Unit of the “External Relations” Department of the Commission where he was in charge of international economic and financial matters and EU programming instruments and financing facilities. In 2011 he joined the “Global economic issues” Division of the European External Action Service-EEAS under Ms. Ashton and he acted as senior financial advisor to the Cabinet on international economic and financial matters, EU relations with the IFIs and BRICs, EU relations with investors and the EIB, and global financial governance issues (G7, G20, IMF etc).
From 2014 onwards he became an active senior member of a number of European think-tanks, such as the European Institute for Asian Studies, the VUB, the Triffin international monetary Foundation, Vesalius college, FEPS and the European Neighbourhood Council (ENC). He is also active as senior financial consultant, advising Embassies, national authorities, enterprises, economic and trade associations, banks and NGOs on EU policies, governance and regulatory matters. He is also active in the field of training for” young leaders”, coaching and teaching at University level (Master courses in European integration). He has also extensively written on international economic and financial subjects.
Dr. Mogni is married with two children and he is permanently resident in Brussels (Belgium).
